![]() ![]() Using cloud backup is more expensive, but you essentially are paying someone else to do the maintenance and backups and upgrades. but this is going down a deep rabbit hole. can consider if this data is so critical you cannot afford to lose it. Some people use a set of external hdd, rotating it in the 3 generation method. If you are using an external hdd, best to disconnect when not in use, so that if, touch wood, your pc is attacked/infected, the data on the external hdd is not compromised. at least if my block collapses, hopefully my data is still ok i backup to another NAS at relative's place. the existing drives can be your backup, or preserve them as a reference backup, until such time you think your data has changed so much you can wipe/sell them. In this case, i'd recommend getting new drives, installing them into the DS1515, the copying over the existing data. If you foresee going beyond 16TB, you can still add drives, but create a new volume when limit hits (subject to existing setup supporting multi-volumes). If you want to migrate the drives over, bear in mind the 16TB volume limit (actually 14.x after formatting). ![]() ![]() If not interested, then ignore this line. if critical data, do the backup off-site as well (NAS, buy cloud storage etc).īoth NAS are about the same age, but the DS1515+ has more scope to try out new stuff. RAID is not backup, so i assume you have backup somewhere, somehow. Out of curiosity, how is your 2*6TB setup in your DS416?ĭepends on your needs in the next few years. But I remember when I called Eternal a few years back about a 214 play they told me RMA can take a few months and if out of warranty may cost 100+ at least to fix. The ingram lady who picked up wasn't sure about Synology and memory world never picked up calls.Īny ideas what to do? I suspect it's the NAS that's spoiling. tried calling Eternal Asia but they said they stopped handling Synology this month and told me to call Ingram or Memory world. Warranty was 2 years local, so I think out of warranty liao. I remade the storage pool and it was ok for a week or so, then problems started with Bay 2 drive again. Now after a few weeks, bay 2 drive crashed but disk is healthy. This NAS is being used to back up my older 218 play using hyperbackup. After that, bay 1 seagate drive crashed within a week with the same problem. Recently, bay 2 drive crashed - volume degraded + disk failed. I bought a ds 220+ from lazada official store in 2020 nov with 2 x 4tb seagate ironwolf drives. ![]()
